blog #11 US Drone Strikes: What's the big deal? Good idea or bad? Why?

The U.S drone strikes are calculated strikes which take away the risk of losing soldiers throughout the actual attack, as they are un-manned attacks. But what goes under reported or in some cases completely unreported is the civilian death toll especially during the Pakistan attacks. This is because the attacks are less precise due to being controlled away from the actual attack. This incomplete data is not being reported to hide the fact that there are downsides of these. Another issue of these attacks is that the U.S are killing people without giving them a proper trial, they are just basing there decisions off of possible intel. All of these factors are leading to the decline of Americas image to slip, as "anyone can make a drone", but most countries decide not to use them due to the civilian causalities accompanied by them. Therefore i believe that it is not a good idea, at least at the moment because the attacks are not precise enough yet, and the civillian causalities should out way the advantages of this project.

  1. I agree %100 with your post! They are not giving fair trials and they are simply moving in and killing citizens which are not identified properly. I liked your point on how their targets are not precise because they are done by drones. Great post blake!

  2. I don't believe completely with your position, especially since that we have just been reminded via the Boston Bombing that their are Islamic extremist out there who will go to any extent to change our way of life. We need to carry on drone surveillance and attacks based on the best possible intelligence available.

  3. Great points Blake! I agree with your view on drones, and I feel that the civilian casualties definitely out way the advantages of using this method! I think that drone strikes take away from the level of respect involved in war making them unfair for the opponents.

  4. I think it is very unfair that these people are not given a proper trial just like everyone else in this world should. Also the casualty rate has gone up a lot considering more and more innocent people are being killed by these drone strikes.

  5. I fully support the use of drones, they alleviate the usage of soldiers in warfare and thus reduce allied casualties.
